FAQ

​Do you have to pay tuition fees for the afriZert certificate program?Hide

The certificate program is not subject to tuition fees. You are not required to pay the Association of Student Service fees, as you are only required to pay fees at your home university. However, you will have to pay for the public transport ticket in Bayreuth. Further information on this subject can be obtained from the Student Administration Office. If you have questions, please contact the colleagues there.

​Is the certificate program subject to admission restrictions?Hide

No, but there are admission requirements that you must meet. 

​May I also participate in afriZert if I am not enrolled at the University of Bayreuth?Hide

Yes, provided you are enrolled at a university (of applied science) with a cooperation agreement. Otherwise, you must do a double enrollment.

​As a working professional, can I do the certificate program for additional qualifications?Hide

No. The certificate program is only for students of Bavarian universities (of applied studies).

​When does the certificate program start?Hide

The certificate program starts in the winter term. 

​What is the duration of studies?Hide

The duration of studies for obtaining the ‘afriZert’ certificate is three semesters. 

​What are the language requirements?Hide

The courses of the afriZert certificate program are taught in German and English. English language skills of at least level B2 are required. An appropriate certificate is an admission requirement. Proof can be provided by submitting the documentation that qualifies you to attend university.

​May students without German citizenship also enroll in the certificate program?Hide

Yes, the certificate program is open to all students of Bavarian universities, regardless of their nationality or origin.

​Is there financial support for the mandatory stay abroad?Hide

Students of the afriZert certificate program may apply for a scholarship.

Is it possible to obtain credits for external courses for afriZert?Hide

In principle, crediting of equivalent courses is possible within the framework of some modules. The approval of the examination board is necessary. Please mail us the application for credit recognition including relevant records to afriZert at the IAS of the University of Bayreuth or to afriZert@uni-bayreuth.de. If you have questions regarding the application, we will gladly advise you. An application for credit recognition must be submitted no later than six weeks before the end of the semester. 

​Which examination office is responsible for afriZert?Hide

The students of afriZert are supervised within the University of Bayreuth by the examination office KuWi of the Faculty of Cultural Studies.

​Which degree do I obtain?Hide

After completing afriZert, the students receive a graded certificate proving the acquired knowledge and competences and providing information about the completed stay abroad. 

​What is the semester term for afriZert?Hide

The semester terms in the coming years are scheduled as follows:

  • Winter semester 2022/23: 17.10.2022 - 10.02.2023
  • Summer semester 2023: 17.04.2023 - 21.07.2023
  • Winter semester 2023/24: 16.10.2023 - 09.02.2024
  • Summer semester 2024: 15.04.2024 - 19.07.2024
  • Winter semester 2024/25: 14.10.2024 - 07.02.2025
​I am enrolled in afriZert, what happens now?Hide

Welcome to afriZert! We will enroll you in a general afriZert e-learning course in mid or late September. There, you will find further information about the courses in the winter semester, your possibilities to attend a language course, the scholarship program, the recognition of external courses, and much more. We will enroll you in the e-learning courses of each lecture in the winter semester.
